This is the first multimedia museum in the world dedicated to growing plums, the history of plum orchards and the 600-year-old local tradition of producing plum preserves. It is located in Szydłów, long known as the plum capital.
This medieval town was mentioned by chroniclers as early as the 12th century. King Władysław Łokietek granted it a town charter and his son, Casimir the Great, made it a pearl among medieval towns. A Gothic church and a royal castle were built here and, over time, new residents settled here, including Jewish merchants and craftsmen.
It was thanks to their knowledge that a unique method of processing plums was developed, namely drying them on sticks. The Plum Museum was created to record and educate about this tradition. It takes visitors to the orchard, tells the story of Szydłów, its inhabitants and their passion for fruit growing. Visitors to the site witness the magnificent spectacle of nature from plum blossom through to harvest.
The Plum in Chocolate factory is an important part of the Plum Museum. In that part of the museum, visitors learn how the famous Polish praline, the chocolate-covered plum, is made, learning about its historical production line.
Here, visitors can buy many food products created from this wonderful fruit. It is an ideal place for organisers of team-building events.
